Ladies’ Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society Shirt
Donated in 2019, this purple long-sleeve t—shirt is emblazoned with the slogan “Ladies’ Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society”.
The slogan originates from 1974, when a group of women in a feminist consciousness-raising group from Eugene, Oregon, formed a mock organization of the same name. They went on to print the name on t-shirts, envisioning collective textile making as practice to upend conventions, threaten state structures, and wreak political havoc.
You can read more about the origins of the organisation in Fray: Art & Textile Politics by Julia Bryan-Wilson.
